This month, we’re shining the spotlight on one of our incredible educators, Eloise, who has built an inspiring career across multiple states while continuing to support services and children through SOS.
A Journey Built on Experience and Passion
With more than 12 years of experience working in childcare across both early childhood services and home-based environments, Eloise has developed a wealth of knowledge and a genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development.
After completing her Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education in 2015, followed by a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy) in 2021, Eloise continued to expand her skills and bring a unique perspective to her work with children.
In August 2025, Eloise joined the SOS team in Southern NSW when local services were seeking additional educator support, beginning a new chapter that would see her work across multiple states and communities.
Supporting Services Across NSW, Queensland and Victoria
Since joining SOS, Eloise has had the opportunity to work with early childhood services across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, experiencing different communities, environments and approaches to practice.
“While working with SOS, it has been very interesting to explore the similarities and slightly different practices in varied services across different communities,” Eloise shared.
One of the highlights has been learning from each service and discovering new ways to engage children through creative and imaginative play.
“My most enjoyable part is learning new techniques, songs and activities that engage the children in imaginative and creative play.”
A Flexible Career With SOS
Moving interstate can be a big transition, but SOS has provided ongoing support and flexibility throughout Eloise’s journey.
“One of my favourite parts has been the ability to share when I was moving, and SOS remaining flexible with me. They always assigned me to the closest office as I found where I wanted to move permanently.”
This flexibility allowed Eloise to continue her early childhood career while relocating, with the SOS team helping connect her with services in each new area.
“They are always ready to have a look and share what are the most local services requiring supporting educators.”
Growing Confidence and Skills Along the Way
Working across different services has helped Eloise continue to grow as an educator, developing new approaches to building relationships with children and teams.
She has gained confidence in creating gentle introductions with children, allowing them time and space to become familiar with a new educator, and supporting existing educators by following their goals and the planned EYLF experiences.
“I feel that I have developed my experience when it comes to being a new educator in services, learning new ways that I can best support the service.”
This growth has strengthened her communication skills and confidence when working alongside both children and educators.
Creating Meaningful Moments Through Play
For Eloise, some of the most memorable moments with SOS have come from creating engaging experiences where children can connect, collaborate and use their imagination.
“I absolutely love outdoor play and activities that engage the majority of children, as it’s wonderful to see everyone connect and collaborate together.”
Some of her favourite experiences have included going on an imaginative bear hunt, where children packed their bags and contributed ideas, along with much-loved group experiences like Cheeky Monkeys and Sleeping Bunnies.
These moments highlight the power of play in creating connections and meaningful learning experiences.
Advice for Educators Considering a Move
For educators thinking about moving interstate but wanting to continue their early childhood career, Eloise believes it is absolutely possible with the right support.
“It is very possible and if you have the support of SOS, even easier.”
She also highlighted the importance of understanding each state’s requirements, including Working With Children Checks, mandatory training and local regulations.
“SOS guided me through the different WWCC rules in the various states and made sure I was up to date for the local area’s requirements.”
Why SOS?
The flexibility, support and variety of experiences are what continue to motivate Eloise to pick up shifts and support services through SOS.
“I really love the flexibility and being able to get to know the services from a new perspective. It has been amazing while transitioning and moving locations.”
She would recommend SOS to educators looking for flexible opportunities while continuing to make a difference in children’s lives.
“The team have helped me to find work in so many locations. They are supportive and helpful.”
Looking Ahead
After recently moving to the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, Eloise is excited to settle into the local community and continue supporting early childhood services nearby.
She hopes to build connections with local centres and explore opportunities to work alongside SOS and the wider community.
