SOS Educator Spotlight: Vicki, ECT

At Save Our Service, we’re proud to work alongside passionate educators who make a lasting impact in early childhood education. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Vicki, an experienced Early Childhood Teacher whose dedication to inclusive and meaningful learning spans over two decades.

A Passion for Early Learning

Vicki’s journey into the early childhood sector was driven by a genuine desire to support children in their development and give them the best possible start in life. Growing up in Sydney, she was surrounded by a family who actively supported children with diverse and developmental needs. This early exposure shaped her deep passion for inclusion and her commitment to helping every child reach their full potential.

A Wealth of Experience

With over 20 years of experience working with children aged 0–6, Vicki has held a variety of roles, including ECT Room Leader and Special Educator. Her work has focused strongly on supporting children with diverse needs across multiple council centres, ensuring every child feels included, supported, and empowered.

Vicki has continuously invested in her professional growth, completing a Master of Education (Special and Inclusive Education) at Sydney University in 2022. She has also undertaken additional training and attended industry conferences to further strengthen her knowledge and practice.

Creating Meaningful Moments

For Vicki, some of the most rewarding moments come from seeing children grow in confidence. One standout experience involved setting up a dramatic play space with props like masks, puppets, and boxes. A child who was initially hesitant gradually became engaged, eventually retelling the entire story independently. Watching that transformation and confidence build was a truly memorable and fulfilling moment.

A Thoughtful Teaching Philosophy

Vicki’s teaching philosophy centres on creating high-quality, inclusive environments that nurture every child’s individuality. She places a strong emphasis on nature and sustainability, and values collaborative relationships with families, communities, and fellow professionals.

Her approach to learning is holistic and child-led, with a focus on interest-based projects that encourage children to explore the world around them through their senses.

Why SOS?

Vicki describes Save Our Service as “an amazing place to work,” highlighting the flexibility and opportunities that agency work provides. She also values the ease of the SOS app, which allows educators to manage shifts, access important documents, and stay organised.

For educators considering agency work, Vicki’s message is clear: SOS offers a supportive and flexible environment where you can grow, gain experience, and make a meaningful impact.
