Educator Spotlight – Eseta’s Story

This month, we’re celebrating the incredible journey of Eseta, an Early Childhood Teacher whose career spans over 30 years, and whose passion continues to grow stronger every day.

With a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Early Childhood from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, Eseta’s journey began when her first child was just three years old.

“I have been working in this industry for over 30 years. I started working with children since my first child was 3 years old, where I became passionate about being an early childhood educator, till today. I’m even more passionate and enthusiastic about contributing and supporting children to learn now.”

A Journey Inspired by Her Children

Eseta is the proud mother of three sons, and it was their early learning journeys that ignited her career.

“When the first one started at a play centre, the interest of being an educator emerged and became stronger as I continued being involved with my two younger sons’ early childhood learning journey.”

Determined to follow her passion, Eseta began studying courses in play awareness, leadership, and home tutoring before moving on to university studies. It wasn’t an easy path, balancing study, work, and family life meant long days and sleepless nights.

“Life was hard… however tough it was, I was determined to make it to the end, and I did.”

Over the years, she has worked in Montessori schools, play centres, childcare services, and kindergartens, each role adding to her skills and knowledge.

“The experiences I gained from different working backgrounds have helped me grow and develop skills which have made me the kind of educator I am today.”

The Joy of Teaching

When asked about her favourite part of working in childcare, Eseta shared:

“My favourite part… is when I go home at the end of each day knowing that I contributed in children’s learning, teaching and sharing knowledge with them… making a difference in their learning development and progress… and making connections with families, children, colleagues, employers and community. The feeling of satisfaction from knowing that you have helped change a child’s life with positive learning outcomes, is an absolute privilege.”

Her Journey with Save Our Service

In mid-2025, Eseta joined Save Our Service, curious about agency work and looking for flexibility.

“I thought I’d give it a try for at the time, it suited my life best with the flexibility as well as the eagerness of learning new ideas from different centres and meeting new people which I enjoyed.”

Her first experience with an agency exceeded expectations.

“My consultant (Josephine) guided me through professionally. She made communication so effective and was quick to respond to any inquiry I had… SOS made my first agency work experience very easy and interestingly enjoyable. The staff were so helpful and what they say they will do to help, they definitely delivered.”

Finding the Perfect Fit

Through SOS, Eseta worked at a variety of centres, including one that offered her a permanent role.

“I was assigned for work there for only a week. During this week, I got offered a job by my current employer who contacted SOS inquiring about me… I went in and worked effectively and to the best of my ability representing SOS’s reputation by being professional and abiding by the agency and the centre expectations/policies, respecting children, families and staff.”

SOS supported her through the transition, arranging her interview, polishing her resume, and forwarding her qualifications.

“All these happened within the one week of working at my current centre… I am loving working in my new centre now and feeling so blessed and much appreciative for the support, help and the opportunity I had and received from Save Our Service.”

Driven by Passion

Eseta’s motivation has never wavered.

“It is my passion… I have seen how sharing my knowledge with the children has impacted them… it has made me grow more passionate, motivated, enthusiastic and wanting to be a contributor even more to children’s early learning journey and their long-life skills.”

We are proud to have been part of Eseta’s story and to celebrate the impact she continues to make in the lives of children, families, and her colleagues.

At SOS, nothing makes us happier than seeing our casual educators discover their perfect centre and transition into a permanent role. We can’t wait to support even more educators on their journey to finding their dream job.
