Build A City: Mathematics Activity

At Save Our Service, we encourage our educators to foster early math skills, whether it is recognising numbers, mastering counting, or identifying quantities. Our ‘Build A City’ activity is perfect for teaching foundational numeracy skills, and easy to set up in childcare centres.

What materials do you need?

  • Build A City template (We suggest printing and laminating a few variations to have to use again and again)
  • Building blocks.

How to set up the activity:

  1. Print out the Build A City template: Download the Build a City template or create your own on a piece of paper.
  2. Fill in the bottom of the grid with numbers: Use a marker to fill in the numbers on the bottom of the grid. If you laminate the templates, use white board markers so you can erase them and reuse them.
  3. Identify and stack: Encourage the children to match each number on the grid with the corresponding number of blocks. The children will stack the blocks to create a city skyline.

With simple materials and endless possibilities, it’s a perfect learning opportunity for young learners.
